You know that:
- The Lancia car manufacturer first introduced the Delta model in 1979. The body designer was none other than Giorgio Giugiaro himself.
- In 1980, Lancia even became the Car of the Year.
- Interesting circumstances led to the construction of the HF Integrale racing special. After the initial enthusiasm, unpleasant problems began to appear in the production cars. Almost every unit suffered from electrical equipment failures, frequent engine failures and rapid corrosion of the body, which was made of low-quality sheets imported from Russia.
- Sales were falling and the unfavorable financial situation threatened the existence of the car manufacturer. Something had to be done. That something was the creation of a racing team and the modification of the car to the HF Integrale version.
- And it was a hit on the head. Lancia became a six-time World Rally champion and the car once again attracted world attention. Many of us still remember the iconic shots when the Lancia rushes out from behind the horizon, only to disappear in a controlled skid around a bend the next second. The car was incredibly fast and agile.
- The mass production also underwent a significant transformation. The Russian sheet metal was taken straight to the scrapyard, the cars received a new engine, a new interior and completely new electrical equipment. The quality of the cars improved significantly, but despite all the successful changes, the Delta model never achieved the expected sales.
- In total, only 47,757 first-generation Delta cars were produced.
- The last two produced units were sent to a customer in Japan.
