You know that:

  • This tank was captured from the Germans by the Polish Home Army on the morning of 2 August 1944 in the streets of Warsaw, specifically by the Zoska Battalion under the command of Waclaw Micuta.
  • According to witnesses, the German tank was hit in Okopowa Street by a PIAT anti-tank missile, which damaged the turret. The blinded tank subsequently rolled off the road and crashed into a nearby wooden house.
  • The crew of the Panzer was captured. In exchange for safety, the German crew trained Polish soldiers to operate the tank.
  • That day the Polish resistance captured a total of three tanks, two of which were in very good condition.
  • The captured Panther was given the official name "PUDEL" in honour of the fallen officer Tadeusz Tyczynski, but the crew called it nothing but "Magda".
  • The crew of the Polish Panther was unusually 6 members.
  • A prominent member of the crew was also an exceptionally capable driver, who was called "The Roarer" by others according to his character (in our country it would probably be Pepin).
  • After minor repairs, the crew tested the tank by firing at a German machine gun nest in the tower of St. Augustine's Church. The nest was destroyed after two shots.
  • During the heavy fighting in Warsaw on 11 August 1944, the tank was damaged and the crew decided to destroy it.
