You know that:

• The Fiat 125p was produced under licence from 1967 by the Polish FSO factory in Warsaw.
• The Polish government purchased the licence and production fixtures for 380,000,000 Zloty, an unprecedentedly high investment in the 1970s.
• It was not, however, a fully fledged FIAT 125. The bodywork was taken over completely, but the technology, chassis, engines and interior came from the older Fiat 1300.
• Despite the economical design, it was a modern and safe car of its time with disc brakes on all wheels.
• The first production cars were made from genuine Fiat parts and the transition to domestic suppliers was slow and not without problems. Late deliveries of parts and low quality made it impossible to produce cars in sufficient quantities.
• Over time, most of the problems were rectified and the Fiat 125p became a desirable commodity despite its high price.
• Buying a new car was not easy. Not only did the buyer have to prepare 68 400 CZK with an average wage of 1995 CZK, which would be about 800 000 CZK today, but he also needed a permit from the competent authority to buy it. When all the obstacles were overcome, all that was left was to wait a few years.
• Production was discontinued only in 1991, when the car was already hopelessly outdated.
• A total of 1,445,689 units were produced, of which 874,966 were for export to other countries.
• The number of surviving examples is rapidly dwindling. The reason for this is the high susceptibility to corrosion of both bodywork and engine parts.
