You know that:

  • The aircraft factory was founded in 1927 by engineer and inventor Clyde V. Cessna in Kansas, USA. Clyde originally focused on agricultural machinery, but after attending an aviation day, he fell completely in love with aviation. The following year, he built his first aircraft powered by a marine engine he had removed from an old boat.
  • He tried unsuccessfully to take off with his first plane a total of fourteen times, eventually crashing it into an alley of trees. After modifications and further attempts, the machine covered a distance of 8 kilometres.
  • It was the personal experience of C. Cessna's experience with the rigours and risks of early flying later led him to develop a light upper-aircraft with exceptional stability and reliability that became a true legend.
  • The first Cessna 172 series flew in 1955. The flight characteristics were exceptionally good. High flight stability, good cockpit visibility, reliable engines and low operating costs made the 172 a sales hit.
  • Overflights to remote locations, the development of hiking, or the farmer who needed to check how the corn was doing in distant fields, the Cessna 172 was a suitable aircraft for all these tasks.
  • In the small aircraft category, a production number of over 100 is a great achievement, but the Model 172 produced nearly 45,000.
  • Cessna machines are so well known that they have left a deep mark on the culture. The planes can be found in hundreds of adventure films, novels, and travelogues.
  • Want to learn how to fly a powered aircraft?  Then the flight school will probably put you in a Cessna 172.

John F. Kennedy on the Cessna 172:

"It was important to at least greet the Americans even in the most remote places. I wanted to show that everyone matters, and my Cessna helped me do that. When it seemed that the election campaign might be successful, security forbade me to fly over with a small plane."
