• The HIMARS missile launcher was designed by Loral Vought System and Lockheed Martin in 1996 as a successor to the retiring M270.
• The first tests were conducted by the 27th US Artillery Regiment in mid-1998, and it was clear from day one that this was a formidable weapon.
• A contract for the production of the first 40 units was signed four years later.
• Based on successful deployments in several conflicts, many countries have expressed interest in the Himarsa. However, it is not easy to get permission to buy from the US administration.
• The missile launcher excels in the possibility of usable ammunition. Currently, 12 different types of missiles are in use, including long-range ATACAMS missiles.
• HIMARS is not just one vehicle. The firing unit consists of a rocket launcher with two ammunition containers on a trailer and another ammunition vehicle with a total of 9 magazines that can hold 9 to 54 rockets depending on the type.
• It takes less than 25 seconds to fire one volley and approximately 5 minutes to reload the next. 
• More than 2,000 firing units have been produced so far and production continues at a cadence of 8 units per month.
• The cost of one firing unit is approximately USD 3 500 000.
• The cost of a GMLRS missile is approximately USD 200 000.
