German field howitzer leFH 18 COBI 2292 - World War II

You know that:

• Germany had been developing the divisional howitzer since 1929 as part of the standard Wehrmacht armament.
• The light and reliable gun was produced in large numbers. Under the designation StuH 42 L it was also installed on the self-propelled howitzer Sturmguschütz III.
• Before World War II, the howitzers were exported to Hungary, Spain, Bulgaria and Finland.
• The barrel was designed to use up to 28 different types of artillery shells with a barrel life of 12,000 shots.
• Despite all the efforts to make the design as light as possible, the leFH 18 was heavier than its predecessor, the leFH 16. The original narrow wooden spoked wheels proved unsuitable for towing the gun in the field and were replaced in 1936, first with rubber bandage and later with tyres.
• The new wheels allowed the gun to move at speeds of up to 40 km/h without bouncing uncontrollably behind the towing vehicle.
• In total, over 22,000 were produced in several versions.
