The Maserati brand was founded in 1914, when brothers Alfieri, Ettore and Ernesto established their own workshop in Bologna. At first, they mainly focused on modifying cars for racing. In 1926, the first car featuring the famous trident emblem was created – the Maserati Tipo 26 racing car. Maserati gradually built a reputation as a highly successful racing brand. After World War II, however, Maserati began to focus increasingly on road cars, and in 1947 the Maserati A6 1500 was introduced, which is considered the brand's first road-going Gran Turismo. The idea of combining sporting performance, luxury and comfort on long journeys later became one of Maserati's defining characteristics.

The modern model bearing the GranTurismo name arrived in 2007. It was an elegant four-seat coupe that combined Maserati's sporty character with comfort suitable for longer journeys. This model became one of the most distinctive automobiles in the modern history of the brand. The first generation was produced until 2019. It was followed by a several-year hiatus during which Maserati prepared a new generation.

Maserati made a spectacular return in 2022, when it introduced the new GranTurismo in three variants at once – Modena, Trofeo and Folgore. The Trofeo became the sporting flagship of the second-generation GranTurismo's petrol range. In developing it, Maserati did not want to create merely a classic sports car, but rather a luxury grand tourer capable of covering long distances while also offering performance comparable to that of sports cars.

Under the bonnet is a 3.0-litre V6 Nettuno Twin Turbo engine featuring pre-chamber combustion technology inspired by Formula 1 racing cars. The Trofeo uses all-wheel drive, with the system able to vary the amount of power sent to the front axle according to driving conditions. The interior combines leather, Alcantara, carbon fibre and high-quality metal elements. The vehicle features sportier seats with more pronounced side bolstering to keep the driver securely in place during fast driving. In front of the driver is a digital instrument cluster, while the centre of the dashboard features a large infotainment display and another touchscreen below it, primarily used to control the climate system and other functions. 

The Trofeo is offered in seven basic colours – white, metallic grey, matte grey, black, blue, dark blue and a special deep red created specifically for the Trofeo. At launch, the price was around CZK 4 million, depending on the market and equipment.

“Gran Turismo is not just the name of a car – it is a concept: a car with which you can travel comfortably and stylishly over long distances, while also stopping at a racetrack, driving a fast lap and still feeling at home in it... Performance comes first. We can create a beautiful car, but if it doesn't work in terms of performance, what is the point?”
