• The Opel Rekord C was launched in 1966 as part of a hugely successful range that was popular with customers for its high reliability and comfort.
• The Rekord name was a logical continuation of the previous Olympia models from the 1940s.
• The Coupé had, and still has, very attractive shapes inspired by the famous Coca-Cola bottle. The intention of the designers was to bring the shape of American cars into the European environment and we must say that they succeeded extremely well.
• The quality of the work was particularly appreciated by customers, who bought more than 1,276,000 cars during the production period.
• Initially, sales were not very good. This was due to a false legend about the rapid rusting of cars from Rüsselsheim, Germany, which reached bizarre proportions. Unhappy owners would stop their cars to cover them with a waterproof tarpaulin every time it rained. Time has shown that this was not true. Unfair competition was behind the spread of the legend.
