The detailed 1:28 scale model of the NSU Kettenkrad (Sd.Kfz. 2) half-track tractor features an authentic chassis design with a fully functional track mechanism for smooth movement. The model includes an openable engine cover, a contoured seat for a Luftwaffe ground troop figure, and practical mounts on the sides of the superstructure for a shovel, hammer, and standard infantry rifle Mauser Kar98k. The rich set includes an authentic single-axle trailer Sonderanhänger 1 (Sd. Ah. 1), two field backpacks (Tornister M34), a fuel drum, canisters, an ammunition box, an assembly lever, and a stylish presentation plate with the model name and scale.

Did you know that:

The vehicle was originally designed in 1939 for airborne troops to fit into the cargo hold of Junkers Ju 52 aircraft. Its simple and reliable design proved successful, and German units used the Kettenkrad for a wide variety of tasks. Its first deployment took place during the invasion of Crete. On the Eastern Front, it was used for reconnaissance and laying telephone cables over long distances. Luftwaffe ground crews used Kettenkrads at airfields to tow aircraft to runways, conserving valuable aviation fuel. Standard equipment for the half-track vehicle included the single-axle towed trailer Sd.Anh.1 with a watertight body capable of floating when wading. 

By the end of the war, 8,345 units were manufactured by NSU Motorenwerke AG and Stoewer. The Kettenkrad was a truly remarkable vehicle, as proven by its resumed post-war production for agriculture and transport of all kinds. The last units rolled off the production line in 1949.

The Kettenkrad also left a deep mark on popular culture. Virtually no war movie could do without this machine, and today it is a prized collector's item of great value.

“When the autumn mud arrived, the entire division ground to a halt. Trucks were stuck in the mud up to their axles and horses collapsed from exhaustion. The only machine capable of moving and maintaining communication between headquarters and the forward lines was this little tracked tractor. It hauled reels of telephone cable and light ammunition trailers to places where not even a tank could reach.”
