Did you know:
- The automaker Lancia first introduced the Delta model in 1979. The body designer was none other than Giorgio Giugiaro himself.
- In 1980, the Lancia was even named Car of the Year.
- Interesting circumstances led to the development of the HF Integrale racing special. After initial enthusiasm, unpleasant issues began to appear in the production cars. Almost every unit suffered from electrical system failures, frequent engine faults, and rapid body corrosion due to low-quality panels imported from Russia.
- Sales declined and the unfavorable financial situation threatened the company’s existence. Something had to be done. That “something” was the creation of a racing team and the modification of the car to the HF Integrale version.
- And it was a bull’s-eye. Lancia became a six-time winner of the World Rally Championship and the car once again attracted global attention. Many of us still remember the iconic shots of the Lancia bursting over a crest, only to disappear into a corner in a controlled drift the next moment. The car was incredibly fast and agile.
- Mass production also underwent a fundamental change. The Russian panels were sent directly to the scrapyard upon arrival, the cars received a new engine, a new interior, and a completely new electrical system. The quality of the cars improved significantly, but despite all the successful changes, the Delta never reached the expected sales figures.
- A total of only 47,757 first-generation Delta vehicles were produced.
- The last two units built were shipped to a customer in Japan.
- Among the major achievements of the Evo sport version are 6 Constructors’ Championship titles, 4 Drivers’ World Championship titles, and 35 WRC rally wins.
