The first generation of the Lancia Delta was introduced in 1979 and was designed by none other than the famous Giorgetto Giugiaro of Italdesign, who also designed vehicles such as the VW Passat B1. Originally, it was a comfortable family car that began competing in Group B rally racing during the 1980s. Since Group B regulations were relatively unrestricted, entering the championship was not particularly difficult. However, several tragic accidents in 1986 led the FIA to abolish Group B and introduce new regulations for Group A. This created a major challenge for Lancia, which suddenly needed to develop a new competition car based on a production model manufactured in at least 5,000 units. After several development stages, the Lancia Delta HF Integrale was born in 1987.

Compared to the standard Delta, the competition version featured a wider track, flared wheel arches, larger tires, more powerful brakes and an output of 185 horsepower. The name Integrale refers to its all-wheel-drive system, which distributed power between the axles through a sophisticated differential setup. Thanks to this, the car became famous for its exceptional traction on asphalt, gravel and snow.

Lancia holds several records, including six consecutive World Rally Championship manufacturers' titles (1987–1992) and dozens of WRC victories. Legends such as Juha Kankkunen, Miki Biasion and Didier Auriol drove the car.

Today, the Delta has become a highly sought-after collector's car, with well-preserved examples selling for €50,000 to €100,000.
