Did you know:

• Auxilia were auxiliary military units composed of members of allied tribes, or of free people born in the controlled provinces.
• Members of Auxilia did not have Roman citizenship. The only exception were officers.
• A soldier of the auxiliary corps could obtain Roman citizenship for himself and his descendants after 25 years of service in the legion, or after 26 years in the navy.
• In numbers, the auxiliary corps made up as much as three-fifths of all Roman forces, making it a significant military power.
• Auxilia consisted of infantry divided into Cohorts and cavalry, which formed the Alae.

Equipment:

• Commander: helmet with crest crista, short sword gladius, dagger pugio, heavy sandals, colorful cloak.
• Guardsman: helmet galea, sword gladius, two daggers pugio, shield parma, heavy sandals, chainmail shirt, water bag, and spear.
