From Captain N. Körber's diary:
"We wanted to get to the Americans at all costs, knowing what would happen to us if we fell into the hands of the Russians. At Majdalena, the Soviets tried to stop the retreating German troops. We drove right into their backs, but there was no thought of another firefight. Moreover, we weren't even sure exactly where we were and so, in a group of three Königstigers, we very brazenly drove past the frightened Russians a few dozen meters behind their backs. Before they could turn their guns around we were gone. On the way to the town a massive roadblock had been built on the road and we wanted to simply drive around it on the meadow, but it was so waterlogged that our 70 ton tank was hopelessly stuck. We tried for some time to extricate the machine, but we were running out of time."
