The history of Audi dates back to 1899, when German engineer August Horch founded the company A. Horch & Cie. in Cologne. A few years later, he moved his company to Zwickau in Saxony, which would later become one of the most important places in Audi's history. In 1909, however, Horch left the company due to disputes with its management. Since he could no longer use his surname as the name of a new car manufacturer, the name Audi was created in a rather unusual way. The German „Horch!“ means „Listen!“ and its Latin translation is „Audi!“. The first automobile bearing the Audi name was completed in 1910.

In 1980, the first car with four-wheel drive, known as Quattro, was introduced. Quattro gradually became one of Audi's key technological trademarks. And it is no coincidence that all-wheel drive would later also be found in RS models. The first RS model was introduced in 1994, the Audi RS 2 Avant. The RS 2 was based on the practical Audi 80 Avant, but under the bonnet it had a 2.2-litre turbocharged inline five-cylinder engine and a top speed of 262 km/h. Five years later, the first generation of the RS 4 Avant, designated B5, was introduced.

The fourth generation of the Audi RS 4 Avant, designated B9, continues the concept that Audi had already used with the first RS 4 in 1999: a practical estate car combined with technology capable of competing with sports cars. Under the bonnet is a 2.9-litre V6 TFSI engine with twin turbochargers and an automatic transmission. The car uses steel, internally ventilated disc brakes. Compared with the regular A4 Avant, the RS 4 features a significantly wider body. Inside, there are 5 full-size seats and a large luggage compartment, while the seats are designed for sporty driving and a sports steering wheel is also included. In front of the driver is the digital Audi virtual cockpit, which can display not only the usual speed and engine speed, but also special driving-related information. In RS modes, the display can show data such as power, torque, oil temperature, tyre pressure and temperature or G-forces. A nice detail is the aluminium door sill plates with an illuminated RS 4 logo. The car therefore combines the comfort and practicality of a family car with sporty features that would not look out of place in a sports car.

When it was launched on the Czech market, its price started at approximately CZK 2.2 million, while highly equipped cars could exceed the CZK 3 million mark. Today, used cars are priced at around CZK 1–1.5 million, depending on equipment and wear.
