The assembled model in Western Front camouflage features a rotating propeller with a black spinner, adjustable control surfaces and two 37 mm cannons mounted under the wings. The cockpit canopy is removable for easy placement of the pilot figure, flying ace Hubert Pölz, and the rear gunner figure Ernst Gerhard. A beautiful detail is the aerodynamic landing gear fairings, just like on the real aircraft. The model can stand on its own landing gear or be safely placed on a display stand with a nameplate.

The chief designer of Junkers, Hermann Pohlmann, had been working on the bomber’s design since 1933. The prototype, still powered by a British Rolls-Royce engine, first took off from the factory airfield in Dessau on September 17, 1935. It should be noted that at the time it was a high-quality and reliable aircraft equipped with a semi-automatic dive recovery system. A siren known as the Jericho-Trompete was installed on the leading edges of the wings, and its wailing sound accompanied every attack.
Initially, the JU 87 was a dangerous weapon of the Luftwaffe, but from 1940 onwards it easily became a victim of anti-aircraft fire and fast maneuvering dogfights with fighters. In the final year of the war, the aircraft were used almost exclusively for night missions to minimize their own losses under the cover of darkness. The JU 87D-3 version was specially modified for ground-attack missions. Pilots attacked enemy armored vehicles from the rear and, after completing the strike, flew directly back to their bases.
A famous JU 87 pilot and flying ace was Hubert Pölz, who carried out more than 1,000 combat sorties during World War II. He was shot down four times and took part in supporting German forces trapped in the Courland Pocket. On May 5, 1945, he eventually surrendered to British troops in Denmark.
Aircraft production ended in 1944, when the decimated Luftwaffe no longer had enough aircraft to escort the vulnerable Junkers planes. In total, about 5,800 units were produced in 30 different versions. The Ju 87 served in the air forces of several European countries, including Bulgaria, Italy, Hungary, Germany, Romania, Slovakia, and Spain.

“The German army had signed the capitulation. It was finally over. We entered Karup airfield on May 5, 1945. The aircraft were lined up in neat rows. The pilots and ground personnel surrendered their personal weapons and documents without resistance. One of the pilots, quite an ordinary fellow, was Hubert Pölz. From the name I knew who he was. We curiously glanced at each other. He never said it, but I think he was just as glad as I was that the war was over.”
